San Luis Obispo Campus

Every year since 1949, Cal Poly Universities San Luis Obispo and Pomona have worked together to enter a float into the Tournament of Roses Parade. This float is the only entirely student designed, built, and operated float in the parade making this program a unique learning opportunity to the two campuses. By welcoming students of all majors and any skill level, Cal Poly Rose Float is a shining example of Cal Poly’s “Learn by Doing” motto.

Learn about our history on our YouTube and Website.If you are a SLO student and are interested in particpating in Rose Float and have gone to a SLO lab day, sign up for a Joint Lab Day in Pomona. After lab days, come to our weekly department meetings to better stay connected and have a bigger impact.Make sure to wear long pants, closed toed shoes, and cotton clothing to our Lab Days!

Upcoming Dates

  • Big Meeting: 9/8 @ 7pm in UU 220

  • Second Newcomer's Lab Day: 9/12 @ 10am - 2pm

  • Rose Float Bonfire: 9/26

  • Fall Lab Days: Every Saturday 9am - 5pm

  • *Sign ups open two weeks before joint lab days and close at 6pm on the following Tuesday.

Department Meetings

  • Construction: Mondays 6pm

  • Design: Thursdays 5pm

  • Deco: Thursdays 6pm

  • Ops: Fridays 1pm

*Department Meetings will not be held during Dead Week or Finals
